description ex270  The course focuses on the conflictual relationship between the State and the Church from the beginning of the modern world up to the contemporary age (Pope John Paul II). It will examine the problems arisen in the history of the conflict between religious and civil power which unveil knots that are not yet completely unravelled. In particular, the religious universalism of the Church had to confront a civil pluralism and the secularity of the State.
